If they were the following part of the country, how can they NOT know everything about the culture? The occidental side of Paraguay, that is separated by a river (I will put a map for you to see!) does not speak Spanish. In the oriental side, there is a finger counted amount of people who speak Spanish fluently. That meant that if they didn't know Guarani they wouldn't be able to speak to the rest of the country, they were trapped in the capital.
After A LOT of work, Guarani became an official language and is now taught in schools. As a primary or secondary language, depending on the location.
Right now, it is difficult to speak Spanish without Guarani, because we use a lot of expressions that most of people don't know how to express in Spanish. We do know how to speak, there is just some things we say in Guarani because they sound funnier, or many other reasons. I like speaking Guarani, but I hate it's grammar.
Here are some pictures

If you have some questions, just ask me
Thanks for the wonderful response. I'm sorry it took me a couple days, but I finally had a chance to sit down and absorb all of that. We studied the case of Guarani in my linguistics classes, but it's always so much more interesting to hear the story from someone who really knows. The photos you shared were all wonderful. Looks like a beautiful and scenic place. Idyllic almost. I had a few questions (from a language point of view) if you don't mind me asking.
As a native Spanish speaker, do you find Guarani difficult to learn?
How does having a different language impact Paraguay as a country when interacting with its neighbors?
Is being bilingual in Guarani and Spanish a valuable skill to your people? Are those who are fully and truly bilingual at an advantage?
You obviously have a lot of pride in your lovely country and its culture. Do you feel that way about the language too, or does being a native Spanish speaker cause too much frustration?
Thanks again, so glad that we're having such a great chat. I was curious about Paraguay when we talked about it, but we really only talked for about a day on it.

The impact depends on who actually has to speak, I, as you see, have no problems to communicate with you and you are not a neighbor. I personally have problems with Brazil, I do not speak Portuguese, but Paraguayans who live near Brazil does. Now, about Paraguayans who do not speak Spanish, they have more problems, but they don't leave their lands because they love them!
It is a valuable skill, on every work you can have. By knowing Spanish, Guarani and English you can get places in works even if you weren't prepared for that, they adapt you to do something useful. Paraguayans used Guarani to confuse their enemies in wars! There also are careers in which you can't graduate if you do not speak Guarani.
I wouldn't be able to answer that for a lot of people, but speaking for me, it causes frustration. I can't understand a lot of people because I don't know Guarani, and they also can't speak to me. But the frustration disappears when I can speak with people beyond my reach, as I enjoy art in all it's possible ways
Don't be afraid to ask any other doubt you have!
